Year-to-date figures remain negative despite “strong uplift” in November
Brussels – The EU new passenger car market grew by 16.3% year-on-year in November, arking a fourth consecutive month of growth, the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) has reported.
However, in a 15 Dec statement, ACEA said the number of vehicles sold last month, at 829,527 units, remained considerably lower than 1 million units sold in November 2019.
Most of the region’s markets contributed positively to the overall growth sen in November, including the four largest ones.
The strongest increase was observed in Germany at 31.4%, followed by Italy at 14.7%, Spain at 10.3% and France at 9.8%.
Year-to-date, new passenger car registrations across the EU were 6.1% lower compared to the first 11 months of last year.
The recent strengthening of the market, noted ACEA, was not enough to offset declines generated between January and July.
Over the 11-month period, all of the four key markets reported declines, led by Italy at 11.6%, and followed by France, Spain and Germany which posted year-on-year drops of 8.7%, 4.4% and 2.4% respectively.
