Holds joint event for local farmers on improving quality and productivity
Tokyo – The Yokohama Rubber Co., has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with PT Kirana Megatara Tbk, a natural rubber supplier in Indonesia, to progress the sustainability of rubber in the South East Asian country.
The MoU will see the partners cooperating to provide economic support for Indonesian NR farmers and to improve traceability and transparency in the supply chain, said Yokohama Rubber 9 Dec.
The agreement is the latest in a series of actions taken by Yokohama Rubber’s as part of its “procurement policy for sustainable natural rubber.”
In conjunction with the agreement, the two companies held a seminar event targeted at improving the quality and productivity of natural rubber.
The event was attended by about 50 small-scale farmers affiliated with Kirana Megatara and local government officials, said Yokohama.
It featured a tapping contest and a quiz on agricultural technology. The farmers attending the event received a complementary supply of fertiliser and natural rubber coagulants.
Earlier in January, Yokohama Rubber signed a similar MoU with the Rubber Authority of Thailand (RAOT), to support NR farmers in Thailand.
