IOM3 Elastomer Group provides updates on IRCO event, final technical afternoon session of the year
London – The deadline for abstract submission for RubberCon 2023 has been set for 16 Dec, according to IOM3 Elastomer Group.
The UK group is hosting the RubberCon 2023 event – one of the two global events planned by the International Rubber Conference (IRCO) for 2023 – in Edinburgh, Scotland 10-11 May.
The last major in-person conference organised by the Elastomer Group was another IRCO event, International Rubber Conference 2019 (IRC2019), which was held in London and attracted more than 500 delegates and 150 presentations.
Next year’s RubberCon conference will feature seven elastomer themes spread over two days.
The themes include product innovations; material developments; material processing; sustainability, characterisation & testing of elastomers and products; modelling and smart materials.
The IOM3 Elastomer Group is also holding its last afternoon technical discussion meeting (ATDM) of the year on 9 Dec, with a focus on using elastomer materials in space.
The free-to-attend hybrid event will discuss the use of the materials when designing space craft for human habitation, where a controlled atmosphere has to be maintained and severe accelerations have to be damped.
According to IOM3 Elastomer Group, elastomers are known to exhibit dramatic changes in behaviour below their glass transition temperature, when subjected to radiation and in zero atmosphere conditions.
Talks at the session will include:
Radiation-induced degradation of thermal interface materials in space electronics - Prof Roozbeh Dargazany & Dr Hadis Nouri (Michigan State University, USA)
Elastomers as enablers for new small satellite missions and applications - Dr Chantal Cappelletti (Nottingham University, UK)
Elastomer composites for space applications - Yarjan Abdus Samad (University of Cambridge, UK)
Can we successfully use elastomers on Mars? - Rafa? Anyszka (Uni of Lodz, Poland) & Anke Blume (Uni of Twente, The Netherlands)
