Certifications mark "important step" in achieving 100% sustainable materials target by 2050
Brussels – Bridgestone has marked a major sustainability milestone with two of its tire manufacturing plants achieving the international sustainability and carbon certification (ISCC Plus) certification.
ISCC Plus recognises compliance with and transparency around sustainability and traceability of raw materials including bio, bio-circular and circular-based material in the manufacturing process.
The certification evaluates all the sustainable raw materials in the value chain to determine and verify compliance with environmental requirements.
In a recent statement, the Japanese tire maker said its tire production plant in Rome became the first of the group’s manufacturing facilities to gain the sustainability certification in September.
In addition, Bridgestone Americas saw its passenger/light truck radial tire plant in Aiken County, South Carolina, achieving the certification to become the first tire manufacturing facility in America to earn the accreditation.
Bridgestone said the achievements marked an important step in its sustainability strategy which targets the use of 40% sustainable materials by 2030, and 100% sustainable materials by 2050.
Bridgestone Europe said it would be expanding the assessment programme across further plants in Europe from 2023.
