Advanced compounding process said to produce tires with enhanced performance properties
Danvers, Massachusetts – Maxam Tire is employing liquid mixing technology, combined with automated manufacturing, at its new solid tire manufacturing facility in Vietnam, the speciality tire manufacturer has announced.
Called EcoPoint3, the compound “completely revolutionises” the performance and durability of Maxam’s solid tires, said a 15 Feb release from subsidiary Tire North America Inc..
The “proprietary liquid phase mixing process” will be used to produce premium Maxam products, a spokeswoman said in reply to questions from Tire Business, an associate publication for ERJ.
These products, said the company representative, will be new resilient and cushion solids material handling models to be launched in the second quarter of 2022.
Maxam added that the introduction of advanced automation at the new factory will significantly increase existing production volume, efficiency, and consistency.
“After several years of R&D of high-performance rubber materials, the Eco-Visco-Elastomer-Composite, EcoPoint3 compound elevates the organisation to a new level of global competitiveness,” Troy Kline, president of Maxam Tire North America said in the release.
Compared to carbon black compounds and conventional dry-mixed silica compounds, the EcoPoint3 process is designed to improve distribution of ingredients during the mixing process.
According to Maxam, its process delivers compounds with less inert filler, higher ratios of stress-at-elongation, and minimal impurities.
EcoPoint3, it stated, improves rolling resistance and enhances skid and wear resistance so that tires are stronger and safer as well as being more energy-efficient and comfortable to ride on.
The technology represents “a breakthrough in green and low-carbon tire development, from the selection of raw materials, manufacturing, and product life cycle,” Maxam further claimed.
Maxam said it had “relocated all solid tire production to the new factory while also increasing current production with considerations for future product expansion.”
In August 2021, ERJ reported that Maxam had started phase I production at a recently opened an “all-new advanced and automated” solid tire production plant.
While the company initially declined to provide details of the plant location, a spokeswoman subsequently indicated that the facility was sited in Vietnam.
Maxam said the unit would enhance its ability to supply speciality tire segments, including material-handling, skid steer, telehandler and loader in North America, Europe, Latin America, Asia and Africa.
Danvers-based Maxam Tire North America is a division of Luxembourg-based Maxam Tire International Sarl, part of China's Sailun Group.
