Major US oil company will test suitability as feedstock for the production of biofuels
Gothenburg , Sweden – Scandinavian Enviro Systems (Enviro) has received a recovered pyrolysis oil order worth SEK2 million (€0.2 million) from a subsidiary of an unnamed US oil company.
The client, one of the five largest oil companies in the US, will use the oil is production tests at a European oil refinery owned, Enviro reported 8 Feb.
According to the supplier, the production tests will help determine how suitable the tire-derived oil is as feedstock for the production of different biofuels.
The deal is subject to Enviro’s recovered oil gaining a registration for use as an intermediate under the EU’s REACH chemicals regulation.
Other manufacturers have already obtained REACH registrations for pyrolysis oil, said Enviro, which expects the same outcome for this new contract during the second quarter of 2022.
The oil will be produced at Enviro’s recycling plant in Åsensbruk, which employs the Swedish company’s patented recycling technology for end-of-life vehicle tires
Oil and carbon black produced at the plant were both certified in accordance with the global sustainability certification system ISCC in September last year.
“This is the first major order from an oil company and is a milestone for Enviro’s development as it signals a clear acceptance of the commercial potential of our pyrolysis oil, Thomas Sörensson, CEO of Enviro.
“Accordingly, this transaction also improves our opportunities to secure off-take agreements for the oil we recover,” added Sörensson.
