Michelin named a “Best employer†for over-50s
Greenville, South Carolina -- Tyre maker Michelin North America Inc. is one of 50 "Best Employers for Workers Over 50" for 2005, according to the American Association of Retired Persons.
Michelin and the other honorees excelled in several categories scrutinised by a panel of judges, including recruitment practices, continuing advancement opportunities, flexible work schedules and benefits for current employees and retirees.
More than one-third of Michelin's 23 000 North American employees are age 50 or above. "The talent of our people is by far our best asset," said Jim Micali, Michelin chairman and president. "Our experienced workers represent a depth of knowledge that is a key business advantage for us.
"We've been manufacturing in the US for more than 30 years and many of the employees who started with us in 1975 are still with us. Mining that wealth of experience is part of what propels Michelin forward."
