Calls for “regulatory coherence, proportionality, and predictability to support industrial competitiveness in Europe…”
Brussels – The European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers’ Association (ETRMA) has submitted official comments to the European Commission's consultation on the simplification of REACH chemicals safety regulation.
ETRMA said it “strongly supports” the aims of REACH in protecting human health and the environment but emphasised “the need for regulatory coherence, proportionality, and predictability to support industrial competitiveness in Europe.”
In its submission, the association called, among others, for the alignment of REACH with existing and upcoming EU legislation and the introduction of a ‘regulatory management option analysis’ (RMOA) framework.
Among the key recommendations identified in ETRMA’s 23 April release are:
- Enhance regulatory coherence and simplification
- Introduce an RMOA framework
- Registration requirements should not be extended to polymers
- Reform the REACH Authorisation process
- Enforce a uniform and continuous level playing field in the EU
