Nokian Tyres negotiating four-week closure and 100 job losses in Finland
By Liz White, ERJ staff
Nokia, Finland-Nokian Tyres announced 21 Nov that it has started statutory negotiations for lay-offs of personnel as well as possible dismissals of about 100 employees in its car tyre plant at Nokia in Finland.
Nokian said the aim "is to adjust the car tyre production with the current tyre demand and inventories."
Finnish tyre group Nokian, which has recently set up a plant in Russia, added that the possible lay-off, for a maximum of four weeks, "concerns all personnel groups working at the Nokia factory," a total of about 1200 people.
These potential lay-off do not concern personnel working for the group's Nokian Heavy Tyres profit centre or the Russian operation, Nokian's statement added.
This move does not alter Nokian's 3 Nov prediction for sales and profit development for the year 2005, the group added.
