Voronezh SR plant on fire: one dead -- report
Voronezh, Russia -- ITAR-Tass, the Russian news agency is reporting that a fire which broke out Wednesday night at the Voronezh synthetic rubber factory has killed one person and seriously injured two more.
The Tass report says, "The fire began at the polymer shop at 00:41 am, Moscow time. There were 15 people in the shop when the fire broke out. Most of them managed to escape, but one woman died in the blaze and two metalworkers received serious burns and were rushed to hospital. The fire, which began on the ground floor, spread to the first and the second floor. It was put out at 4:55 am. Twenty-nine fire engines took part in combating the blaze."
The Interfax news agency reports that the fire was preceded by an explosion, and quoted an aide to the region's prosecutor, Galina Gorshkova as saying that a criminal investigation into the incident has begun.
The IISRP lists Voronezh as the only manufacturer of solution-SBR in Russia, with nameplate capacity for 30 kt/year of S-SBR; 155 kt/year of emulsion SBR and 126 kt of polybutadiene rubber.
