Kuczkowski receives Charles Goodyear Medal

Akron, Ohio -- Joseph A. Kuczkowski, retired from Goodyear, received the Charles Goodyear Medal today at the ACS Rubber Division's Spring Technical Meeting, held in Akron.
Kuczkowski received the Rubber Division's highest honor for his work at Goodyear in explaining the mechanisms of antioxidant and antiozonant function and how these stabilizing materials interact with rubber polymers. The studies resulted in the commercialization of several new antioxidant systems and an improvement in the stability of the polymers that contain them.
He retired from Goodyear in 2000, holds 23 US patents and has 12 products or processes in production.
Others receiving awards during the technical organization's Science and Technology Awards Banquet were:
- P.S. Ravishankar, ExxonMobil Chemical Co., Melvin Mooney Distinguished Technology Award;
- Alfred J. Crosby, University of Massachusetts Amherst, Polymer Science & Engineering department, Sparks-Thomas Award;
- Nikos Hadjichristidis, University of Athens, Chemistry of Thermoplastic Elastomers Award; and
- Avraam I. Isayev, University of Akron's Department of Polymer Engineering, George Stafford Whitby Award for Distinguished Teaching and Research.
