Paris – French rubber and plastics parts supplier Hutchinson SA has developed a car door seal made of 100% thermoplastic materials.
In a 23 July statement, the company said that its Body Sealing Systems business unit, in cooperation with its innovation centre, had “perfected” a 100% thermoplastic door seal, which was 30-50% lighter than a generic EPDM-based solution.
In addition to that, the seal is recyclable and according to Hutchinson, aesthetically more pleasing.
The French supplier said an initial production order has been placed for a range of premium vehicles, including Jaguar- Land Rover.
The new product, Hutchinson claims, can make a significant contribution towards reducing CO2 by carmakers.
