Rancho Cucamonga, California – PT Gajah Tunggal Tbk, the Indonesian tire manufacturer, is voluntarily recalling approximately 250,620 tires for a manufacturing anomaly that could lead to cracks in the lower sidewall, the company said.
Giti Tire (USA) Ltd., the Rancho Cucamonga-based importer and distributor of Gajah Tunggal tires in the US, will handle the recall, Gajah Tunggal and Giti Tire said in a press release. All of the recalled tires were manufactured in Indonesia, and the recall affects North America only.
The manufacturing anomaly usually manifests itself as a visible crack in the inboard sidewall after the tire has been in service for several months, Gajah Tunggal told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Because of the crack’s inboard location, detection is difficult, the company said.
The recalled tires are spread among the Primewell, GT Radial and Dextero tire brands, Gajah Tunggal and Giti Tire said.
