Ube completes €460m purchase of Lanxess urethanes unit
Move part of German group’s portfolio transformation to focus more on speciality chemicals
Tokyo – Ube Corp. has completed the previously announced purchase of Lanxess AG’s urethanes systems unit, valued at €460 million.
The deal, initially announced 3 Oct 2024, was finalised 2 April, Ube reported.
The urethane systems business comprises five manufacturing sites globally, as well as application laboratories in the US, Europe and China.
Ube will take over all operations within the business from Lanxess, which have a total of around 400 employees.
The business unit generated sales of around €250 million during the 12 months to end of June 2024, according to Lanxess.
The divestment marks Lanxess’s exit from the polymers business with the aim to focus its portfolio onto speciality chemicals.
