Facility in Vresova, near German border, to process 23ktpa of end-of-life tires
Dillingen (Saar), Germany – Pyrum Innovations AG and Czechia's Suas Group are planning to build a waste tire pyrolysis plant in Vresova, near the German border.
The project was initially announced in October 2023 and will have the capacity to convert 23 kilotonnes per annum (ktpa) of end-of-life tires into secondary raw materials.
The partners are set to start construction work on the €57 million project in the second quarter of the year with completion scheduled for 2027, Pyrum announced 5 March.
As part of the deal, Pyrum and Suas Group will establish a joint venture for the construction and operation of the plant, with Pyrum having a 49% stake in the company.
The facility will be built on the site of Saus Group subsidiary Sokolovska uhelna in Vresova, where the company produces coal-based energy for 51,000 households in the Karlovy Vary and Sokolov regions.
According to the German tire recycler, the partners aim to utilise the “synergy effects” of the pyrolysis facility on site and will integrate the gas produced during thermolysis into existing operations.
“The site has the necessary infrastructure… [to use] the gas produced during pyrolysis, which is rich in hydrogen and methane,” explained Martin Cermak, board member of Saus Group.
The technology, he said, is “extremely environmentally friendly”, helping the group reduce the carbon footprint of the site by more than 18ktpa of CO2.
