Department of Commerce opts for dumping margins much higher than the previously announced rates
Washington – The US Department of Commerce has significantly increased anti-dumping duties on truck & bus radial tires imported from Thailand.
In a preliminary decision 16 Oct, the US authority determined a 48.39% duty rate for Bridgestone Corp. and 12.33% rate for “all others.”
The rates, which are considerably higher than the 2.35% margin announced 20 June, are subject to a review by the US International Trade Commission before 25 Nov.
According to data previously provided by Commerce, the US imported over 10 million units of TBR tires from Thailand in 2022.
The imports level, it said, represented a 40% increase on the 7.2 million units recorded in 2021 and more than double the 4.7 million units reported in 2020.
Value-wise, TBR imports from Thailand reached $1.46 billion in 2022, up 52% compared to $958 million in 2022, and 135% compared to $623 million in 2020.
The anti-dumping probe followed a petition by the United Steelworkers (USW) in October trade union last year, which alleged dumping margins as high as 47.8% for TBR imports from Thailand.
