Salindres unit continues to deliver ‘negative financial performance’ due to unfavourable market conditions
Brussels - Solvay has launched consultation with social partners to cease the production of trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) and fluorinated derivatives at its Salindres site in southern France.
The planned discontinuation of the activities would impact 68 jobs assigned to the TFA and derivatives production between early 2025 and October 2025, the Belgian chemicals group announced 24 Sept.
According to Solvay’s website, TFAs are used in a range of sectors, including industrial applications such as catalyst for silicones and alkylation reactions.
They are also used in the production of electronic conducting materials and coating materials for flat panel displays, touch screens and finger print scanners.
The decision, Solvay said, is due to the continued negative financial performance of the Salindres plant over the past few years, driven by unfavourable market conditions “that are unlikely to improve in the future.”
Solvay will record provisions of €50 million in the third quarter of 2024 in relation to the cuts.
