US-Swiss partnership using rubber compounds to create outsoles with over 40% recycled content…
Portsmouth, New Hampshire – Trederra has announced an ‘exclusive supply agreement’ with Tyre Recycling Solutions (TRS) of Switzerland for the production of footwear outsoles made from end-of-life tires.
Under a deal announced 26 Aug, TRS will supply MatMarket LLC company Trederra with CT-50 rubber powder, manufactured using its patented water pulse technology
The Swiss company’s proprietary water-jet system is stated to produce fine powder “derived from 100% end-of-life tires diverted from landfills and… free from steel and synthetic fibers.”
Trederra said it utilises “an Asian-based manufacturing supply-chain process” to incorporate the rubber powder into its rubber compound for work and performance footwear outsoles.
The compounds, it continued, are used to produce a masterbatch of 67% recycled content that “enhances durability without compromising performance or comfort.”
The rubber compounds can be used to create outsoles with over 40% recycled content without sacrificing performance, the company added.
Linking up with TRS “will open a new path for sustainability in the footwear industry,” claimed Tony Marino, president and CEO of Trederra.
“This partnership will allow us to provide a scalable and affordable outsole solution that is accessible to a multitude of brands,” added Marino.
“Our partnership with Trederra represents a significant step forward in demonstrating the potential of sustainable materials in mainstream industries,” added Sonia Megert, COO of Tyre Recycling Solutions.
