Kottayam prices for RSS4 grade ease back from high-point reached on 9 Aug, ANRPC chart shows
Singapore - Natural rubber buyers in India were offered some respite by recent pricing figures compiled by the Association of Natural Rubber Producing Countries (ANRPC).
Following a surge since mid-July, prices for RSS4 on the Kottayam Rubber Exchange reached a high of $294.4/100kg on 9 Aug, data posted by the ANRPC shows.
Since then, however, the association's chart shows a slight cooling-off in prices for the commodity grade in India: down 3.3% to $284.7/100kg on 16 Aug.
Over the same time-period, the data shows equivalent prices for Malaysia latex increasing by just 1.2% to $143.8, while SMR20 in KL increased by 1.0% to reach $178.4 on 16 Aug.
As previously reported by ERJ, natural rubber prices in India had already reached record high levels, with RSS4 trading at around $291/100kg in Kottayam on 8 Aug – up from $247/100kg a month earlier.
The surge is being linked to the impact of recent adverse weather conditions on local growers, a dip in overseas supplies, and low inventory levels at tire makers based in India.
