Tokyo – Tokai Carbon Co. Ltd has reported a strong first-half performance at its carbon black unit with earnings (EBITDA) up 12.7%% year-on-year to Yen16,334 million (€100 million) on net sales 7.8% higher at Yen79,585 million.
Revenue increased despite a slight fall in sales volumes due to on-going, inventory adjustments for replacement tires at tire manufacturers since the second half of last year, the Japanese group reported 9 Aug.
Net sales and earnings, however, increased due to foreign exchange developments and higher selling prices, which helped offset depreciation due to ‘environmental investment’ in North America.
For the second quarter, Tokai’s carbon black business reported net sales of Yen39,983 million, compared to Yen36,424 million in the same period of 2023.
