Project to add production capacity for all-terrain, EV tires at facility in Ontario
Napanee, Ontario – Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. is investing CAD$575 million (€381 million) to expand its tire production facility in Napanee.
The ‘modernisation’ project is intended to create an “energy-efficient, end-to-end manufacturing process” at the site, the Canadian government announced 12 Aug.
Goodyear's investment will increase production capacity for electric vehicle (EV) and all-terrain tires for both OE and replacement markets, it noted.
The project is expected to create 200 new jobs by 2027, bringing the size of the workforce at the plant to over 1,000.
Furthermore, the modernisation is expected to help Goodyear achieve its net-zero emission target in Canada by 2040.
Goodyear Canada will receive over CAD$64.3 million from the Canadian government and local Ontario authorities for the project.
Operational since 1990, the Napanee facility has capacity to produce 20,000 units per day of radial passenger car tires, according to the ERJ Global Tire Report 2023.
