Facility in Newton, Iowa expected to cease operation by end of November
Newton, Iowa – Gates Industrial Corp. is closing down its hydraulic hose production facility in Newton before the yearend, the US parts maker has announced.
In a worker adjustment and retiring notification (WARN) to the Iowa workforce agency on 1 Aug, the company said it is planning to close the facility before the end of November, cutting 41 jobs.
The notification did not provide a reason for the closure but according to local reports the cuts are linked to significant cutbacks at major customer John Deere within its Iowa and Illinois operations.
WARN notifications filed by John Deere at the Iowa workforce agency show that the agricultural machinery supplier is planning to cut nearly 800 salaried jobs across various sites in Iowa by end of September.
