Milan – Pirelli achieved a “generalised improvement” in workplace safety across its main production areas in 2023, the group said in its recently issued annual report.
In 2023, Pirelli recorded a lost time index frequency rate of 1.69 per 1,000,000 hours worked, a 15% reduction compared to 2022 and an 18% reduction compared to 2021 (see also data below).
Improvements were seen particularly in Europe “through a series of initiatives undertaken in the most important factories,” according to the Milan-based tire maker.
From mapping of incidents that occurred last year, Pirelli found that the main potential causes of serious accidents relate to mechanical risks, collisions and impacts due to materials handling.
The group stated that its workplace safety culture “will continue to support the zero-accidents goal,” with an accident frequency of around 1.0 in 2025 (compared to 1.7 in 2023).
Pirelli reported one fatality during 2023: a worker from a third company falling from height during civil works for the extension of its Silao plant in Mexico.
*Lost Time Index Frequency Rate (LTIFR) injuries with at least one lost working day per 1,000,000 hours worked.
