Trelleborg, Sweden – Trelleborg Sealing Solutions (TSS) is to present new sealing technologies for e-bikes at Eurobike, 3-7 July, Messe Frankfurt, Germany.
For e-bikes, seals must protect essential electronic components from dirt, moisture, and corrosion, noted TSS, which will showcase application-specific sealing for batteries, drives and HMI displays.
Features will include housing seals, bearing and shaft seals, seals made of liquid silicone rubber and multi-component items. Trelleborg will also demonstrate its testing capabilities in this area.
"For eBikes to achieve a long and sustainable lifespan and resource efficiency, the small, inconspicuous components are more important than ever," according to Samuel Schmid, account manager at TSS.
In particular, seals must provide effective protection for components, such as accumulators, motors and gearboxes from water, moisture and dust as well as from vibrations.
Schmid went on to note that the requirements for components and seals have changed significantly with e-bikes, especially compared to traditional bicycles.
"When it comes to continuous loads, e-bikes often cover thousands rather than hundreds of kilometres per year,” explained the TSS account manager.
This, he said, “also applies to the materials themselves, which must withstand environmental influences, so the entire sealing system needs to be robust, or damage is often just a matter of time."
