Goodyear launches ‘subscription-based’ tire as service offering

Akron-based group to provide ‘end-to-end tire service’ for fleet operators in US, Europe
Akron, Ohio – Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. has launched a new subscription-based tires-as-a-service (TaaS) offering for fleet operators in the US and Europe.
The scheme combines the supply of Goodyear tires, predictive-insight and service capabilities to provide and “end-to-end tire service” to customers, Goodyear said 24 June.
The new TaaS service, according to the Akron-based group, can save time and improve total cost-of-ownership through outsourced tire management.
Further benefits, it added, include increased uptime, reduced vehicle breakdowns and lower fuel-consumption.
According to Goodyear, a recent pilot with a US delivery fleet contributed to “a nearly 80% reduction in emergency vehicle breakdown events.”
A commercial fleet in Europe saw a nearly 50% reduction in emergency breakdowns and up to 4% reduction in fuel consumption, it added.
The scheme is part of Goodyear’s “total mobility offering” which aims to provide “end-to-end” tire management.
Features fo this programme include the supply ‘premium tires’ with intelligence technology to generate proactive insights.
Goodyear will also provide continuous tire monitoring and data collection; proactive alert management and service coordination.
A further offering is a ‘halo tire inflator’, described as a self-powered automatic tire inflation system installed on applicable wheel ends.
