Circtec secures waste tire supply with Granuband acquisition

London – Waste tire pyrolysis company Circtec Ltd has acquired Granuband BV, a Dutch end-of-life tire (ELT) collection and recycling company, covering the Benelux region.

Granuband operates a “substantial recycling plant” in the industrial port of Amsterdam, capable of processing 50,000 tonnes per year of ELTs into granulate, moulded products and tire chips, said Circtec 12 June.

According to Circtec the facility in Amsterdam is “one of Europe’s most sophisticated” ELT recycling plants, with automated tire selection, robotic production and direct access to bulk marine transport.

Furthermore, the plant’s location in the port of Amsterdam allows ELTs to be brought in from across Europe by ship for processing.

This, said the recycler, will give Circtec a "Europe-wide logistical reach."

Circtec said it had incorporated Granuband into the group structure as 'feedstock subsidiary' to manage the requirements of its tire pyrolysis plant currently under construction at Delfzijl, The Netherlands. (ERJ report)

The acquisition enables Circtec “to take control of our feedstock requirements going forward, and to close the loop of circularity,” said Allen Timpany, CEO and co-founder of Circtec.

The “vertically integrated strategy”, Timpany added, is “a key part of Circtec’s growth plans to scale-up the business and take a significant market share of the European ELT recycling sector.”

The acquired unit will also continue to operate production of moulded rubber products, making Circtec “the first company globally” to produce a full range of ELT recycling products, from both mechanical and chemical recycling.

Post-acquisition, Maarten van Randeraat, the founder and managing director of Granuband will remain with the company, joining Circtec to head the feedstock supply function for the group.
