Goodyear inaugurates solar panel installation in Colmar-Berg
Collaboration with energy supplier Enovos takes solar power generation capacity of Luxembourg site to 6.2GWh
Colmar-Berg, Luxembourg – Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. inaugurated a large-scale solar panel installation on its Colmar-Berg proving ground, the tire maker has announced.
Established jointly with energy supplier Enovos, the solar facility was actually completed last December, with the official launch staged 28 May – under umbrellas.
Spanning a total surface area of 37,700m2 , this solar project has a capacity of 4.4 MWp and employs 8,148 bifacial panels, capturing light both on the illuminated surface of the panel and on the lower surface.
The project was a collaboration between the Goodyear, Enovos and Paul Wagner et Fils, with a remit to meet technical and safety requirements at the site located alongside a tire-testing track.
The new facility complements the two installations already in place at Goodyear's Colmar-Berg site, including the photovoltaic carport with almost 1,500 solar panels on the proving ground parking lot and the power plant on the roof of the mould plant.
With a combined annual production of 6.2 GWh of electricity, they will contribute to reducing carbon emissions by more than 50,000 tons over the next 20 years, while providing clean energy to 1,700 households, said Goodyear.
