Move to adapt heavy tire production to ‘market demand situation’ could impact 160 employees
Nokia, Finland – Nokian Heavy Tyres Ltd has started a two-week “change negotiations” with workers as part of a move to “adapt production to the market and demand situation.”
The talks concern the Nokia factory employees of Nokian Heavy Tyres, altogether some 160 people, the Finnish tire maker announced 21 May.
Possible adjustment measures considered by the company could be layoffs of factory employees and shortening of daily and weekly working time.
According to Nokian, the measures are preliminary planned to be implemented as “temporary layoffs” of up to 90 days, due to productional and financial reasons.
Nokian aims to implement the measures during the rest of 2024 and the first quarter of 2025.
In May last year, Nokian announced a similar procedure, temporarily laying off "all Nokia factory employees” of its Heavy Tyres for a maximum of 90 days.
Nokian produces all of its ‘heavy tires’ in Finland and discontinued sales and distribution of these products to Russia in the first quarter of 2022.
