Renewed collaboration will see the two companies establish a research centre in Sophia Antipolis, France
Lincoln, Nebraska – US-based supplier of low-emission carbon black and hydrogen Monolith has expanded a research partnership with École des Mines de Paris-PSL (Mines Paris) to February 2030.
The renewed collaboration will support Monolith's R&D efforts and will see the two companies ‘create a research centre’ in Sophia Antipolis, France, said the US supplier 24 April.
The partners first started their joint R&D programme in 2012, which resulted in the development of plasma pyrolysis process of natural gas into carbon back.
Through to 2030, the companies will aim to “further” thermal plasma processing innovation, while expanding ways to facilitate customer development work.
Monolith's plasma pyrolysis process uses renewable electricity to convert conventional, renewable, or responsibly sourced natural gas into carbon black and hydrogen, generating “virtually no local emissions”.
The latest announcement follows Monolith's establishment of a partnership with Goodyear, aimed at delivering first applications of its carbon black in select tires.
Headquartered in Lincoln, Monolith currently operates a commercial-scale production facility in Hallam, Nebraska and has offices and R&D facilities in San Carlos, California, Denver, Colorado, and Kansas City, Kansas.
