Manifesto urges a ‘shared agenda’ to enhance competitiveness and support sustainability targets of industry
Brussels – The European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers’ Association (ETRMA) has published a manifesto calling on European policymakers to support the tire & rubber industry and enhance its competitiveness.
Targeting strategies for the 2024-2029 legislative period, the manifesto urges the EU to join the industry in "recognising the strategic role of the European tire and rubber industry" and to support its sustainability agenda.
Furthermore, the Brussels-based industry association called on EU lawmakers to do more to safeguard the single market “by effectively implementing and enforcing legislation.”
ETRMA also called for investment incentives backed by “consistent and proportionate future regulation”, as well as support for the industry's sustainability efforts, including around the design of “circular and renewable products.”
“The manifesto advocates for strategic measures to enhance the sector’s industrial competitiveness and support its pivotal role in fostering zero-emission mobility, circularity, and sustainability,” said an ETRMA release.
It also provides digital solutions to elevate vehicle safety, efficiency, and environmental performance, added the association's press statement issued 17 April.
"To enable the European Union to continue its leadership in the digital and green transitions, a renewed focus on industry and its competitiveness is required,” stated ETRMA president Chris Delaney.
The tire & rubber industry, Delaney added, is “an essential part of enabling safe and sustainable mobility” in the region.
“We urge European policymakers to join us in setting an agenda for a competitive Europe that delivers on both the digital and green transition,” added Adam McCarthy, ETRMA secretary general.
