Wichita, Kansas – US materials supplier Invista has announced its intent to explore strategic alternatives for its polyamide fibres business.
The operations include Invista’s fibre-focused portfolio: airbag and industrial fibres, the Cordura businesses, and five manufacturing locations in Seaford, Delaware; Martinsville, Virginia; Kingston, Ontario, Gloucester, UK; and Qingpu, China.
According to its website, Invista polyamides fibres can be used in various applications include carpets, apparel and tire cords.
“Invista continuously assesses the external value of assets to make sure they are owned by the company best positioned to grow the business,” said Francis Murphy, Invista president and CEO.
The potential move will result in “a simplification and strengthened focus” on Invista’s long-term positions in the upstream nylon and propylene value chain businesses.
“Nylon fibres is a great business, and we believe there are other companies with different focus and capabilities that could create even greater value with those assets,” he added.
However, Murphy stressed that Invista will continue to operate the business if it does not find a company that appropriately values the business.
Stating that the nylon fibre assets are “a major part of the current Invista footprint”, the company said it could not speculate on the final structure of a potential deal.
