Group invests over €40m in Tizona facility designed for storage of over 800,000 tires
Burgos, Spain – Bridgestone EMEA has opened a new logistics centre in Burgos to support the growth and development of its production facilities in Spain.
Representing an investment of over €40 million, the Tizona unit is one of Bridgestone’s “most significant logistics centres in Europe”, said a 20 March announcement.
The new facility supports Bridgestone’s recently announced plans to invest up to €207 million in Burgos by 2030 to enhance efficiency, sustainability and product-mix at the site. (ERJ report)
Tizona, Bridgestone said, will play “a critical role” in the transformation of the Burgos facilities by increasing stock capacities for the more than 11 million tires manufactured annually at the plant.
Spanning over 44,500 square metres, the facility has capacity to store more than 800,000 tires, according to the Japanese group.
The centre has initially created 50 direct jobs, with Bridgestone expecting “a further positive impact on employment in Burgos” from the new centre.
The facility is said to incorporate state-of-the-art technologies, as well as various innovations "developed exclusively by Bridgestone for this project,” the statement added.
Tizona, it noted, offers 10 metres of storage height, 24 loading docks, and over 31 truck holding zones, enabling “enhanced productivity, more efficient goods processing and redefined storage capabilities.”
With new centre Bridgestone said it was “significantly increasing” its export capacity, and strengthening its sales & distribution capabilities at Burgos.
With a “very good” sustainability rating, Tizona is claimed to meet “very high environmental standards”.
Features include intelligent sensors that increase transportation efficiency as well as rooftop solar panels designed to generate up to 100 KWp of electric power.
Promoting “greener and smarter operations” the investment enables automation, efficiency and sustainability, said Jerome Boulet, VP supply chain EMEA.
Tizona supports "an integrated and stronger supply-chain in Europe, contributing to our customer commitment,” Boulet added.
