Japanese group aims to reduce scopes 1 & 2 emissions by 55% and scope 3 by 25% by end of decade
Kobe, Japan – Sumitomo Rubber Industries (SRI) has received certification from the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) for its greenhouse gas emission reduction targets for 2030.
Certification approved SRI's strategy to achieve a 55% reduction in its scope 1 and scope 2 emissions, from its own activities by 2030, against a 2017 baseline.
For scope 3 emissions, from the Japanese group's supply chain, the target is to deliver a 25% reduction by 2030 from a 2021 baseline, added a statement issued 21 March.
“We have set targets for 2030 to achieve carbon-neutrality throughout the supply-chain, including SBT-certified targets,” said the tire & rubber products maker.
To achieve that, it stated, SRI is promoting long-term initiatives, focusing on reducing emissions from materials development and procurement. (ERJ report).
