Reserve, Louisiana – Tire pyrolysis company Life for Tyres Group (L4T), located in Spain, is investing €42 million to establish a facility in the US.
The company, which claims to be “Europe’s largest end-of-life tire recycler”, plans to set up the plant on a plot of land spanning 10 acres at the Port of South Louisiana.
L4T's Louisiana plant will convert end-of-life tires (ELTs) into sustainable commodities such as advanced biofuel feedstock, recovered carbon black and scrap steel.
The investment is expected to create 46 direct new jobs in St. John the Baptist Parish, according to information published 7 Feb on the local government website.
The processing capacity of the Louisiana plant was not disclosed.
The project is part of a broader global expansion plan by L4T, which is headquartered in Ireland and recently opened a plant in Puertollano, Spain.
According to its website, L4T is creating a network of ELT recovery and recycling centers, in different locations around the world.
The company lists three site locations in Spain (Castilla de la Mancha, Castilla y León, Canary Islands) and another in Germany (no location provided).
L4T adds that it is "making steps forward with our expansion plan towards Latin America and Asia, starting in Ecuador and Japan."
By 2025 the company said it will reach a total annual processing capacity of more than 220 kilotons of ELTs.
