Manufacture of ‘head protection’ products to be integrated into operations at other sites
Melksham, UK – Avon Protection is to close a manufacturing-unit for head protection products in Irvine, California, in a move to consolidate its operations in the US.
In a 26 Jan trading update, the UK protection gear manufacturer said it had informed employees about the planned closure, to be completed by summer 2025.
Manufacture of head protection products will be transferred from Irvine to other production sites, said Avon without giving further details.
The move, said Avon in a first quarter update, will “significantly improve competitiveness and financial performance over the medium term.”
The UK group expects to see benefits from the move in its financial year 2026, which will start 1 Oct 2025.
Avon acquired the Irvine plant in 2020 following the $91-million (€82-million) purchase of 3M’s ballistic-protection business.
The facility in Irvine was the business' principal manufacturing and final-assembly unit for a number of products, including ballistic helmets and body armour plates.
