To be operational in April, logistics unit to support delivery to European car makers 'in-line with near-shoring trends...'
Prague – Swiss logistics group Fiege is set to operate a new warehouse in the Czech Republic to deliver Nexen tires to major car makers in Europe .
Leased from industrial property group CTP, the 18,000 square-metre facility at the CTPark Zatec is set to be operational in April.
The unit "will be used to store tires from Nexen Tire Europe and supply them to automotive manufacturing plants across Europe, CTP announced 10 Jan.
"Fiege will provide complete logistics services at CTPark Žatec for South Korean tire maker, which has its European production plant close by," it added.
The logistics unit has been “specially adapted” for the storage of tires in transport cages, rather than conventional racking, according to CTP.
The Czech warehouse, it noted, also features dedicated safety facilities, including fire-safe sections equipped with special sprinkler heads.
Furthermore, “cutting-edge technologies” have been applied at the site to provide “highly efficient and sustainable logistics services,” added CTP.
Fiege is strengthening its logistics operations in Europe as “a direct response to growing near-shoring trends,” commented David Peterka, head of business development at Fiege.
The development, concurred CTP, reflects a current trend for companies to bring production closer to customers: increasing their European production capacity and supply-chain capabilities.
That, it said, "is why Fiege has extended its cooperation with Nexen and will transport tires from CTPark Žatec to the production plants of European car manufacturers such as VW, BMW, Audi and Škoda."
