Continental Tires, ContiTech and employees from group functions housed at new campus
Hanover, Germany – Continental AG has officially opened its new headquarters in Hanover, where around 2,400 employees have been based since the start of December.
Continental’s group functions as well its Tires and ContiTech group sectors will work at the “integrated open-space” campus, the German group announced 14 Dec.
“We have created a place where our vision, values and culture can come alive in an open, connected and sustainable working environment,” said CEO Nikolai Setzer at the opening ceremony.
Opened two years behind schedule, due to Covid-19 and "significant material shortages", the campus comprises six buildings, with a 75m suspended bridge as a prominent feature.
Accordng to the group statement, the building is also designed to provide physical proximity and hot desking in an open space environment.
The layout, said Setzer, will strengthen the “culture of innovation and networking” by facilitating informal, interdisciplinary interaction between our teams."
In terms of sustainability, the complex has been built in compliance with the German government’s criteria for ‘climate friendly new buildings’, continued Continental.
The roofs of the parking garages, for example, are fitted with solar panels, while rainwater is collected and a geothermal system harnesses energy to ‘heat and cool’ the building.
Photovoltaic systems on the roofing can generate up to 300,000 kilowatt hours of electricity a year, which is used to charge electric cars and bicycles at 100 charging points.
