Supermax set to ‘substantially complete’ US gloves plant

Malaysian latex gloves maker to employ artificial intelligence, automation technology at Texas plant
Kuala Lumpur – Supermax Corp. expects to ‘substantially complete’ construction work on its $550-million (€500 million) rubber gloves manufacturing plant in Brazoria County, Texas, by the end of December.
At its 26th AGM on 8 Dec, the Malaysian gloves maker said it has been “working very hard to manage the setting-up of the US operations.”
The next stage, it added, will involve the installation of various manufacturing equipment including those employing AI, automation and robotics technologies.
The gloves maker is to deploy a technical team from Supermax Malaysia to the US facility in various stages for commissioning of the manufacturing facility.
“To date we have fulfilled and complied with various regulatory requirements including permits to operate glove manufacturing plant,” said Dato’ Seri Stanley Thai, executive chairman of Supermax.
The Texas facility will be Supermax’s first US plant and 18th manufacturing site worldwide.
To be operated by subsidiary Maxter Healthcare Inc., the unit is add capacity to produce 400 million pieces/month of nitrile rubber gloves in each of four phases.
With all phases complete, the facility will have a total installed capacity to produce 1.6 billion gloves a month or 19.2 billion a year.
The unit will eventually create up to 1,200 jobs and “be a showcase for advanced medical glove manufacturing technologies,” Supermax said.
According to Supermax, the gloves maker is “one of the largest and active players” in the US market, since the opening of its distribution headquarters in the US in the year 2000.
