Planned facility would be built at Czech power supplier's site near German border...
Dillingen, Germany – German tire recycler Pyrum Innovations AG is planning to build a new end-of-life tire (ELT) pyrolysis plant in the Czech Republic, in partnership with an unnamed Czech energy company.
The company has signed a consulting contract with “a subsidiary of the group of companies” in order to prepare for the submission of the local building application, Pyrum announced 10 Oct.
The facility will have the capacity to process 20 kilotonnes of used tires per year and will be built in a Czech border region with Germany. Scheduled for operation in 2025, the unit will be operated as a joint venture, with Pyrum expecting to have a 30% stake.
The selected location, Pyrum said, also offers sufficient space for future capacity expansion, with the size of the plant having the potential to double by 2027.
As part of the consulting contract, Pyrum said it would carry out the basic engineering and prepare parts of the approval documents for the new plant.
The Czech partner, it added, is active in the field of energy and circular economy, and already operates a power plant on the property.
Among the benefits of the existing structure is a gas turbine that can also convert the pyrolysis gas into electricity in the future.
“Using existing infrastructure to operate the new tire recycling facility is an approach that fits perfectly with Pyrum's commitment to sustainability,” said Pyrum CEO Pascal Klein.
The plan also underlines the progressive expansion of the company outside Germany.
The agreement with the Czech partner follows Pyrum's announcement of new project in Greece last month (ERJ report).
The is the latest in a series of Pyrum agreements to scale up application of its tire pyrolysis technology across Europe.
