“Remediation efforts are progressing" at Cooper Tire Mississippi factory idled since 1 April
Akron, Ohio – Goodyear is releasing inventory from its production facility in Tupelo, Mississippi which has been idled since a 1 April tornado.
“Around-the-clock remediation efforts are progressing at the Tupelo [tire plant],” said Goodyear in a statement to ERJ 18 April.
The Akron-based tire maker went on to say that it had begun releasing stored inventory to customers from the passenger car tire factory.
“We are leveraging the power of our broader manufacturing footprint and network inventory… to limit customer disruption,” it added.
The statement did not provide further details on the extent of the damage suffered by the facility.
Operational since 1984, the Cooper Tire factory employs 1,400 people and has a nameplate capacity to produce 37,000 tires a day.
