Project at Italian site to enhance production of 'highly specialised' materials
San Donato Milanese, Italy – Versalis is preparing to increase production capacity for 'high-added-value' elastomers at its Ravenna site, the company has announced.
Investments of around €80 million in 2023 will "further expand the production mix of high grade elastomers" at the Italian site, Versalis said 13 April.
In particular, it noted, the programme will focus on thermoplastic rubbers, polybutadiene and SBR for the 'tire and automotive' sector.
The statement did not provide capacity figures for elastomer production activites at the Ravenna site.
Versalis is the world's no 9 synthetic rubber producer with overall capacity of around 680 kilotonnes per annum, IISRP* figures show.
Authorisations have been requested from Italy's ministry of the environment and energy security in order to initiate the project, stated Versalis.
The project "fits into the broader specialisation strategy of our portfolio [and] accelerates the development of... sustainable mobility products,” said Versalis CEO Adriano Alfani.
