Arab Organisation for Industrialisation previously outlined plans to build manufacturing capacity for all tire types
Cairo – Construction of a tire factory in Egypt was among a series of projects discussed by officials during a recent Chinese trade-delegation visit to the country.
In negotiations held in Cairo between the Arab Organisation for Industrialisation (AOI) and a Chinese industrial delegation, the two sides agreed on several industrial projects, said AOI 31 March.
These, it said, included a passenger car tire production factory as well as waste recycling and railway projects.
The AOI statement did not provide further details on the project with the Chinese delegation.
In 2021, AOI announced plans to build two tire production factories in partnership with governmental agencies and in cooperation with consulting firm Black Donuts.
Based on the 2021 memorandum of understanding signed with trade and business ministries, AOI aims to build a car, light truck, truck and bus tires production facility in Ain Sukhna on the Suez Canal.
A second facility is to be built in Al-Amiriya, Alexandria to manufacture heavy tires for agricultural and heavy machinery.
The MoU did not specify further details about the capacity or investments size of the projects.
In November last year, the AOI advanced its tire ambitions with the signing of an agreement with construction company Hill International.
The agreement, it said at the time, would see Hill International managing the project of “a factory” for the production of vehicle tires of all kinds.
The tire types, it said, include passenger cars, transport, buses, agricultural tractors, monorails and heavy equipment.
