First closing will see large parts of gloves business sold to Singapore-based Harps
Vienna – Semperit AG expects to complete the first part of its medical business divestment by mid-2023 as it moves to become a solely industrial rubber group.
Semperit signed the agreement with Singapore-based gloves producer Harps Global Pte. Ltd last December to sell its gloves production unit, Sempermed for €115 million.
For the initial part of the deal, the group expects Sempermed’s medical examination gloves unit and sales & distribution organisation to be divested by mid-year.
Within five years, the group’s production of surgical gloves in Wimpassing, Austria and other operations in Sopron, Hungary, are to be transferred to Harps.
Until the second phase of the sale is completed, surgical gloves will be produced for Harps under a contract manufacturing arrangement.
In total, Sempermed operates two gloves production facilities: in Wimpassing, Austria, and a recently expanded facility in Kamunting, Malaysia.
In addition, the business operates a packaging production plant in Sopron, Hungary and a gloves mould-manufacturing site in Nilai, Malaysia.
