Japanese group joins platform dedicated to advancing the transfer and use of tire data
Kobe, Japan – Sumitomo Rubber Industries (SRI) has joined the Global Data Service Organisation (GDSO) to help it more closely align with industry standards for tire traceability.
GDSO is an international non-profit organisation working to standardise data related to tires and define solutions for accessing and exchanging tire data.
According to SRI, GDSO's Tire Information Service (TIS) platform facilitates the transfer of data related to tires via the application of a unique item identifier (UII).
“As a member of GDSO from January 2023, the Sumitomo Rubber Group will be working to further these efforts while aligning with industry standards,” said SRI's 28 Feb statement.
In addition, SRI said it will also construct a database to enable users to access data on the tires manufactured by the group, through the use of RFID technology.
The technology can be used for individual identification and management of tires, helping traceability of products, the group's statement noted.
Higher traceability, SRI said, will allow for significant improvements in terms of quality control, response to customer issues and eliminating counterfeit tires.
In addition, the technology can enhance operational efficiency and safety by simplifying warehouse inventory management, the tire major noted.
SRI said it also aims to use RFID technology for extensive analysis of tire data towards the provision of new value-added services.
