IOM3 Elastomers Group free webinar today on the selection of materials for spacecraft of the future
London – The IOM3 Elastomer Group is holding its next technical discussion meeting (ATDM) on 9 Dec, with a focus on using elastomer materials in space.
The free-to-attend webinar will discuss the use of the materials when designing space craft for human habitation, where a controlled atmosphere has to be maintained and severe accelerations have to be damped.
According to IOM3 Elastomer Group, elastomers are known to exhibit dramatic changes in behaviour below their glass transition temperature, when subjected to radiation and in zero atmosphere conditions.
These issues can present the designer with real challenges when trying to design sealing systems or flexible vibration damping systems for use in space applications.
The online event will discuss how elastomer materials behave under extreme conditions or radiation, low temperature and low pressure.
Participants will also learn about the strategies developed to formulate elastomers that can operate under these conditions.
The webinar will also look into how elastomers can be used to support the future exploration of the solar system by humans.
