Japan sulphur products supplier Tsurumi expands with acquisition

Tokyo-based manufacturer buying insoluble sulphur business of Nippon Kanryu Industry
Tokyo – Tsurumi Chemical Co, Ltd, a Japanese supplier of sulphur products for the tire & rubber industry, is acquiring the insoluble sulphur business of Nippon Kanryu Industry.
The deal, announced 22 Sept, includes the acquisition of the Fukuoka-based business and its manufacturing plant in in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture by 1 Dec.
The Nippon Kanryu unit produces insoluble sulphur under the brand names Seimi OT and Seimi Sulfur, said Tsurumi Chemical without givig capacity or sales details.
Tsurumi Chemical has been manufacturing grinded sulphur for tire industry since 1944 and claims to be the largest manufacturer of the product in Japan.
With the addition of the insoluble sulfur business, the company expects to be able to offer both grades of grinded powdered sulphur (soluble sulphur) and insoluble sulphur for tire and rubber companies in Japan and in Asia.
According to Tsurumi, the acquisition has been made in anticipation of a rise in the global demand for insoluble sulphur within the rubber industry.
Tsurumi Chemical, owned by rubber materials distributor Kato Sansho Co., expects to expand domestic and overseas sales of insoluble sulphur through the sales network of Kato Sansho.
Kato Sansho has sales offices in China, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, the US and Mexico.
