Improved assessment reflects significant strengthening of US replacement tire market
Washington - US tire shipments are on track to reach 342.1 million units in 2022, according to figures issued by the US Tire Manufacturers Association (USTMA).
The association’s projected total, issued 1 Aug, compares to 335.2 million units in 2021 and 332.7 million units in 2019.
Compared with 2021, USTMA expects OE shipments for passenger, light truck and truck tires to increase by 4.8%, 4.8%, and 7.8% respectively.
According to the USTMA, these increases would represent a total increase of 2.5 million units across these segments of the OE market.
Replacement passenger, light truck and truck tire shipments are forecast to increase by 0.9%, 2.3%, and 6.5% respectively, with a total increase of 4.4 million units.
USTMA’s latest figures represent an upgrade from its projections issued on 1 March, when it predicted total US tire shipments of 340.2 million units in 2022.
The improved assessment is linked to a strengthening replacement market, which in March was expected to register a total increase of just 2.2 million units.
By contrast, OE shipments for passenger, light truck and truck tires were expected to increase by a higher level of 2.9 million units.
