GRI advances $100m expansion of Sri Lanka tire production site

Phase II increases capacity by 10% to meet demand from overseas agriculture industries
Colombo, Sri Lanka –Global Rubber Industries (Pvt.) Ltd. (GRI) has completed the second phase of a $100 million (€98 million) capacity expansion project next to its established plant in Sri Lanka.
According to GRI, the project has lifted capacity by nearly 100%, to 60 tonnes/day and will meet increased demand for radial and bias agriculture tires, particularly in Europe, the US and Australia.
Under phase II, GRI has added eight new tire building machines and 17 tire curing presses as well as technology for real-time decision-making and machine optimisation and enhanced R&D capabilities.
With phase 3 of the expansion now under way, GRI said it aims to increase capacity to 750,000 tires per year, including a total capacity of 100 tonnes/day.
"As a result of this expansion, we are now able to double our current volumes and provide our customers the opportunity to grow their businesses,” said GRI CEO Mahesha Ranasoma in the company’s announcement.
