Investment enables combined capacity of 200,000/year for hot and cold retreaded tires
Neu-Isenburg, Germany – Hankook is expanding its retreading activities with the opening of a new hot retreading factory at its facility in Hammelburg, Germany.
The new production area takes up around 2,000 square metres of the now 15,000 square metres site, with a similarly sized warehouse area, said Hankook in a 4 July statement.
With the capacity to produce up to 100,000 hot retreaded tires per year, the factory doubles production capacity at the site which previously focused on cold retreads.
Hankook acquired the Hammelburg site in 2018 following the takeover of Reifen Müller.
Since the acquisition, the Korean tire maker said it has continued to focus on factory retreading in particular for its Alphatread brand for the commercial vehicles.
“With the completion of the new plant, we can meet the increased demand for hot retreaded tires,” said Manfred Zoni, TBR sales director at Hankook Reifen Deutschland.
The new facility, he went on to say, will exclusively use “A-carcasses” to enhance Alphatread profiles.
