The Hague, The Netherlands - Arlanxeo is looking to advance its sustainability credentials with the introduction of elastomers incorporating monomers derived from new biomass feedstocks and/or end-of-life plastics and rubber recyclate.
The synthetic rubber major has already made commercial in-roads in the bio-based polymer arena, with three Keltan ECO branded EPDMs - the ethylene monomer for which is derived from sugar cane.
And, Dutch-based Arlanxeo is now working with partners on an ISCC mass balance approach to produce a broader range of more sustainable elastomers by the fourth quarter of 2022.
“We are investigating options for all of our polymers, including but not limited to EPDM and NBR,” said a statement from Li Birnie, head of corporate communications, Arlanxeo Holding BV.
“We see ISCC+ mass balance certification as a serious option and are working on potential certification of our production facilities, including our EPDM production site in Geleen, the Netherlands,” she added.
Arlanxeo expects to be in a position to share more information regarding timing, availability and capacities in the first quarter of 2023, the company official concluded.
